The objective is greater certainty about the origin of our food
The origin of food has meanwhile become a very important purchasing criterion for consumers. We have to see this against the background of the loss of confidence observed during the past few years. One response to this development was to give consumers certainty about the origin of products. The objective is to maintain the diversity of our food
Food diversity is linked to the origin. European regulations must take account of the regional identity of foods. This concerns for example the maintenance or promotion of specific regional crop varieties and of regional or rare animal breeds.

The objective is improved food safety
Food safety has become a central objective after the different food affairs that emerged in Europe. BSE, animal diseases and various production problems have made consumers suspicious and changed their nutritional behaviour.
